Comparison of Vascular Closure Devices vs Manual Compression After Femoral Artery Puncture: The ISAR-CLOSURE Randomized Clinical Trial

Abstract Full Text
free access has audio
JAMA. 2014;312(19):1981-1987. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.15305

This randomized clinical trial of 4524 patients undergoing transfemoral coronary angiography reports that vascular closure devices were noninferior to manual compression in terms of vascular access-site complications and reduced time to hemostasis.

Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure vs Warfarin for Atrial Fibrillation: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Abstract Full Text
free access
JAMA. 2014;312(19):1988-1998. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.15192

This randomized clinical trial reports that mechanical left atrial appendage closure was noninferior to warfarin for preventing stroke, systemic embolism, and cardiovascular death.

Association of Inpatient vs Outpatient Onset of ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction With Treatment and Clinical Outcomes

Abstract Full Text

JAMA. 2014;312(19):1999-2007. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.15236

This retrospective observational analysis of ST-elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMIs) from a California database found that patients who had a STEMI while hospitalized for a non鈥揳cute coronary syndrome condition were less likely to undergo invasive testing or intervention and had a higher in-hospital mortality rate than those with outpatient onset of STEMI.

Association Between Use of 尾-Blockers and Outcomes in Patients With Heart Failure and Preserved Ejection Fraction

Abstract Full Text

JAMA. 2014;312(19):2008-2018. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.15241

An anaylis of Swedish registy databases found that 尾-blockers reduced all-cause mortality but did reduce combined all-cause mortality or heart failure hospitalization among patients with preserved ejection fraction.

Extent, Location, and Clinical Significance of Non鈥揑nfarct-Related Coronary Artery Disease Among Patients With ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction

Abstract Full Text
free access
JAMA. 2014;312(19):2019-2027. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.15095

This retrospective pooled analysis of 8 clinical trials reports that obstructive non鈥搃nfarct-related artery disease was common among patients presenting with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
