In a randomized trial, Morillo and colleagues compared radiofrequency ablation with antiarrhythmic drugs as a first-line therapy in 127 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and found ablation was associated with a lower rate of recurrent tachyarrhythmias at 2 years, but recurrence was frequent in both groups.
