Krystal Platzer ordered a breakfast sandwich from Dunkin' and apparently got far more than she bargained more. According to her Facebook post, Platzer found "live and hatching maggots" and "dead flies" in the bacon, egg and cheese croissant she bought. Even more disturbing, though, is that her toddler ate the same kind of sandwich before saw what was in her sandwich. "CHECK YOUR FOOD PEOPLE. This is what makes us sick with parasites," Platzer wrote. You can see the post for yourself below, but if you're squeamish, you may just want to swipe right past the photos!"Platzer told NJ.com that when she arrived home with her nearly 3-year-old son, she began to eat her sandwich from Dunkin'. "I opened it up, took a bite and live maggot came out of my mouth and fell on the table," she said. Upon closer examination, she said she found other bugs, including a worm, larvae, flies and a gnat on the croissant she bought at Dunkin' on Route 88 in Lakewood, New Jersey. Per Fox News, Platzer said, "I've never seen anything like this in my life. The bacon inside was pink and crawling with bugs, it was disgusting." Platzer said she doesn't know if her son's sandwich contained bugs, but he hadn't shown signs of being sick nearly 24 hours later, according to NJ.com. After finding the bugs, Platzer said she tried to make herself sick, according to Fox. "I was so sick to think I had swallowed it." She contacted the Ocean County Health Department and then the owner of the Dunkin'. A few hours later, the owner agreed to talk to Platzer, with a police offer there, NJ.com reports. Platzer said the owner agreed to "look into" the bug situation and check the security cameras, but didn't offer her a refund, NJ.com reports. Platzer told the outlet that the owner offered her baby Munchkins or a drink, but she declined. A Dunkin' spokesperson told Delish in an email, "At Dunkin', food safety is a top priority and nothing is more important to us than our franchisees operating clean and safe restaurants." The statement notes that Dunkin' is aware the guest complaint and that the company takes such matters very seriously. "Upon learning of the complaint, we immediately dispatched a certified Operations Manager from Dunkin' to the store to confirm all food safety and quality standards are being followed. The franchisee who owns and operates the store has confirmed he has met with the guest to resolve the matter and apologize for the poor experience."
