Fast forward to 2018, Alexander inspected the two experiments and found that the difference between them was that the homemade version became “charcoal-like.” Not much changed for the McDonald’s version, he said. "The restaurant fries look like I bought them this morning. The buns both survived with the restaurant ones looking perfect and the homemade ones looking a bit rough but still hanging in there," he said. The main difference between the fast-food version in 2018 from 2012 was that the cheese reportedly turned a weird brown color from its original yellow color."The cheddar that I used basically crumbled and turned to a super fragile brittle substance," he said. "The meat on the homemade one has gone into an unknown state. It appears rock hard, but I’m afraid to touch it. "The meat from the restaurant burger is clearly dehydrated and as such has gone very thin but otherwise looks just like a thin meat patty. "The super crazy thing is that we live on a farm. Flies are a part of life. In over six years, we have never once observed a fly or anything else, land on the cheeseburger or the fries. Strange,” he said. Alexander said he decided to auction off the meal and was surprised to find several people were interested. He said someone even contacted him saying that they had a 2-year-old doughnut. Not long after he made the eBay listing, however, the website took it down because it violated its policy that no items listed can be “unpackaged or expired food.”
