State Board of Health votes to recommend Reynolds issue mask mandate
The Iowa State Board of Health voted Thursday to recommend that Gov. Kim Reynolds issue a statewide mask mandate. Matt Highland, with the Iowa Department of Human Services, confirmed the 7-2 vote to vlog. The Board of Medicine had a similar vote in August. They voted to issue a face mask advisor to slow the spread of coronavirus in Iowa. Reynolds has not issued a mask mandate, but implemented more mitigation efforts on Tuesday. Effective this week, groups of more than 25 people indoors or 100 peoples outdoors are prohibited unless all people over the age of 2 are wearing masks. This mandate will be in effect for the next month. As of Thursday morning, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported a total of 170,358 coronavirus cases in the state since the beginning of the outbreak and 1,927 deaths.
