THESE NEW CHARGES COME FROM THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF AND ARE RELATED TO HER OWN PROPERTY TAXES. YEAH. STACEY BAIRD, MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF JASON BARNES TOLD US SHE’S FACING FOUR ADDITIONAL CHARGES, INCLUDING FELONIOUS MISCONDUCT IN OFFICE, TAMPERING WITH RECORDS, FRAUDULENT PRACTICES IN THE SECOND DEGREE AND SECOND DEGREE THEFT. THE SHERIFF SAYS THE CHARGES STEM FROM HER OWN PROPERTY TAXES THAT WERE OWED FOR 2023 2024. ACCORDING TO THE MADISON COUNTY WEBSITE, THE TREASURER IS THE ELECTED OFFICIAL THAT MANAGES ALL FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS FOR THE COUNTY, INCLUDING COLLECTING TAXES. THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF, JASON BARNES, SAYS THESE NEW CHARGES FILED BY HIM THURSDAY EVENING, STEMMED FROM AN INVESTIGATION INTO DEVOS PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES FROM 2023 AND 2024. PUBLIC TAX DOCUMENTS SHOW THE ASSESSED VALUE OF HER HOME AT $437,000. THE TAXES OWED ON THAT PROPERTY FOR FISCAL YEAR 2024 ARE ABOUT $5,800. THE IOWA ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE IS NOW LEADING THE INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION OF DEVOS. vlog REACHED OUT TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE. THEY HAVE NOT YET RELEASED THE CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FILED BY BARNES. THIS ALL COMES ABOUT A MONTH AFTER DEVOS WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH SIMILAR CRIMES. THOSE CRIMINAL COMPLAINTS SAY DEVOS ADMITTED TO THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF. SHE USED HER ACCESS AT THE TREASURER’S OFFICE TO OBTAIN VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLATES AND FALSIFYING GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS TO SHOW SHE PAID $750 FOR THEM. FOR WEEKS, COUNTY RESIDENTS HAVE SOUNDED OFF THEIR DISPLEASURE FOR THE TREASURER AND FOR THE WAY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HAS HANDLED THE SITUATION. I THINK THE MAJORITY OF CITIZENS JUST WANT ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE. THE IOWA STATE AUDITOR’S OFFICE HAS ALSO LAUNCHED A NON CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE MADISON COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE. AFTER A NUMBER OF MISALLOCATED FUNDS WERE IDENTIFIED BY SEVERAL. MUNICIPALITIES. vlog REPORTED EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE CITY OF WINTERSET RECEIVED AN EXTRA QUARTER OF $1 MILLION IN FUNDING THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO OTHER CITIES LIKE PATTERSON. AND WITHOUT THAT MONEY THAT THEY’RE OWED, CITIES LIKE PATTERSON DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS TO PAY OUT CONTRACTS THEY ARE OBLIGATED TO. WE HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO FULFILL OUR OBLIGATION BECAUSE SHE WOULD NOT REMEDY THAT SITUATION AND GET US OUR MONEY. NOW, I’VE BEEN IN CONTACT TODAY WITH DEVOS ATTORNEY. Additional charges have been filed against Madison County Treasurer Amanda DeVos following a continued investigation into misconduct in office, according to Madison County Sheriff Jason Barnes.According to Barnes, on Thursday, DeVos was charged with additional counts of felonious misconduct in office, tampering with records, second-degree fraudulent practices and second-degree theft.These charges are separate from those filed against DeVos last month. The sheriff's office says the new charges are from an investigation into DeVos' property taxes for 2023-24. Public tax documents show the assessed value of her home at $437,000 — the taxes owed on that property for fiscal year 2024 are $5,830.The Iowa Attorney General's Office is now leading the investigation and prosecution of DeVos.vlog has reached out to the attorney general's office.
