INVESTIGATION UNFOLDS. WELL, WHEN THE IOWA STATE MEN TAKE ON THE LIPSCOMB BISONS ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, IT WILL ONLY BE THE SECOND TIME THE TWO TEAMS HAVE EVER MET ON THE BASKETBALL COURT. AND THE FIRST TIME LAURA WAS MORE THAN A DECADE AGO, WHEN A PLAYER FROM AMES WENT OFF FOR NINE THREE POINTERS, BREAKING A HILTON COLISEUM RECORD. JUST NOT FOR THE TEAM. YOU MAY HAVE THOUGHT vlog BEAU BOWMAN HAS THE STORY. JORDAN BERGESON GREW UP GOING TO ALL SORTS OF GAMES HERE AT HILTON COLISEUM TO WATCH THE IOWA STATE CYCLONES, BUT WHEN IT WAS FINALLY HIS CHANCE TO PLAY HERE, IT WASN’T IN THE CARDINAL AND GOLD. DECEMBER 21ST, 2011 LIPSCOMB’S JORDAN BERGESON POURED IN 30 POINTS, HITTING NINE SHOTS FROM THREE AGAINST THE CYCLONES. A HILTON RECORD FOR AN OPPOSING PLAYER THAT STILL STANDS TODAY. YEAH, IT WAS REALLY SURREAL MOMENT AND KIND OF JUST FELT LIKE MY ARMS AND LEGS WERE JUST RUBBER. BERGESON AND AMES NATIVE SAID HE HAD THE BISONS TRIP TO HIS HOMETOWN CIRCLED ON THE SCHEDULE HIS ENTIRE CAREER, AND STILL GETS CHILLS THINKING ABOUT THE HUGE PERFORMANCE HE PUT ON IN FRONT OF HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY. IT’S HARD TO PUT INTO WORDS, BUT IT WAS JUST MAGICAL, YOU KNOW? MORE THAN 13 YEARS LATER, BERGESON ONCE AGAIN CALLS AMES HOME. HE’S OWNER OF BURGIE’S COFFEE SHOP ON THE SOUTH SIDE. GREAT COFFEE, AND WE HAVE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH LEADING UP TO IOWA STATE’S SECOND EVER MATCHUP WITH HIS FORMER TEAM. HE’S HAVING ALL SORTS OF FUN WITH ALL OF HIS CYCLONE REGULARS. NOW, WHEN I SAY, WHERE’D YOU GO TO SCHOOL? OH, I WENT TO LIPSCOMB. PEOPLE. PEOPLE PROBABLY REALIZE WHAT SCHOOL THAT IS NOW. YOU KNOW THAT PLAYING THEM IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. BERGESON SAYS HE DOES PLAN TO GO TO THE GAME ON FRIDAY WITH HIS FAMILY. JUST DON’T BE SURPRISED IF YOU SEE THE LIFELONG CYCLONE FANS SPORTING THE PURPLE AND GOLD. IT’S HARD BECAUSE I’M GOOD BUDDIES WITH DEONTE GARRETT AND HE’S NOW HE’S ON THE COACHING STAFF AND KNOWN TJ FOR A LONG TIME. AND SO IT’S IT’S HARD TO CHEER AGAINST THE CYCLONES, BUT OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A ONCE, ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY. WELL SECOND TIME FOR THEM. AND S
