Winter storm updates: Travel not advised on I-80 east of Des Moines; dangerous temps, more snow in forecast
LOVE THAT. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED. THAT WAS AWESOME. A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT WORKING IN THE SNOW TODAY, BUT WE’D LIKE TO SHOW YOU SOME FOLKS WHO GOT TO PLAY IN IT. SNOW DAY FOR KIDS FROM SCHOOL, BUT ALSO FOR DOGGIES. THIS IS HERBIE’S FIRST SNOW. HE’S A NINE MONTH OLD MINI POODLE. I WONDER WHAT HE THINKS ABOUT THAT. THIS PICTURE COMES TO US FROM STEPHANIE. HE THINKS IT’S THE GREATEST THING EVER. I WONDER, AND DO YOU WANT TO BUILD A SNOWMAN? BECAUSE THIS BIG GIRL SURE DID. THIS PHOTO IS FROM ELIANA MERCER. THIS IS LENA LOU PUTTING THE FINISHING TOUCHES. ON THAT MASTERPIECE. LET A GREAT JOB THERE. NICE WORK OR GETTING READY TO SHOVE IT OVER. RIGHT? I COULD DO THAT TOO. AND OUR SPORTS DIRECTOR, SCOTT REISTER TOOK THIS PICTURE OF HIS LITTLE DOGGIE OUT AND ABOUT TODAY. I MEAN, HOW CUTE LITTLE DASH IS READY TO PLAY IN THE SNOW AND KIND OF BLENDS IN WITH THE SNOW TOO. I KNOW I WAS LOOKING REALLY CLOSELY TO SEE WHERE THE DOG THERE. IT IS. DASH IS ADORABLE AND LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT TOBY. READY TO TAKE ON THE BIG PILES OF SNOW THAT IS A GAME FACE IF I EVER SAW ONE. RIGHT. READY TO GET OUT THERE AND DO SOME DAMAGE? THIS PICTURE IS FROM TIM LAGRANGE, OUR PRODUCER’S BROTHER, WHO LIVES IN DUBUQUE, AND ONE MORE PICTURE FOR YOU THIS EVENING IN CUMMING. LOOK AT THAT. THE EARS AND THE JOWLS JUST FLOPPING. KATIE AND COOPER ENJOYING THE SNOW IN STORY COUNTY. I LOVE THIS PICTURE. THIS PHOTO COMES TO US FROM LINDA WENDT. THANKS SO MUCH EVERYBODY FOR SHARING YOUR PICTURES. WE LOVE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE OUT ENJOYING THIS WEATHER BECAUSE IT WAS OTHERWISE NOT A REALLY GREAT DAY. YEAH, JASON. WE’VE SEEN THE PUPS LOVING IT. WE’VE SEEN THE PEOPLE OUT THERE SHOVELING IT. OH YEAH, AND A LOT OF PEOPLE SHOVELING IT. AND A LOT OF PEOPLE JUST SHAKING THEIR HEAD AS THEY’RE DOING IT. I GET IT THOUGH. I GET IT. THIS IS A LOT OF SNOW. I MEAN, HAD TEN INCHES FOR GILMAN AS WELL AS GRINNELL OVER A FOOT UP IN LAPORTE CITY AND ZOOMING IN TOWARDS CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE STATE. MADRID AT 9.8, BOONE AT 10.29 AND A HALF FOR ANKENY. AND WE ZOOM OUT TOWARDS WINTERSET, PICKED UP TEN INCHES THERE. PATTERSON CAME IN AT 12 AND A LOOK AT THE METRO AGAIN AT THE AIRPORT HAD 10.9. NORWALK PICKED UP 10.8. SO QUITE A BIT OF SNOW FELL WIDE SWATH OF SNOW. AND THANKFULLY WE’VE SEEN THAT SHOVE ITS WAY TO THE EAST. AREAS LIKE MONTEZUMA AND BELLE PLAINE ON THE EDGE OF IT, HEAVIER SNOW, THOUGH STILL WORKING ITS WAY THROUGH DAVENPORT, SO CONTINUING TO SEE THOSE ROADS DETERIORATE EVEN MORE OFF THEIR EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE. VISIBILITY. IS LOW, TOO, THOUGH AREAS LIKE THE METRO, AMES AND WESTWARD WE’VE CLEARED OUT ENTIRELY AS FAR AS OUR VISIBILITY IS CONCERNED. LOOK AT CENTERVILLE THOUGH IT’S BEEN. I WAS GOING TO SAY INVISIBLE THERE FOR A WHILE. I GUESS WRONG WORD, BUT IT HAS. THERE’S BEEN NO VISIBILITY DOWN THERE FOR A WHILE, AND YOU GET TOWARDS EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE A MILE OR TWO AS WELL. SO THANKFULLY THINGS HAVE TAKEN A LITTLE BIT BETTER OF A TURN FOR US, BUT NOW IT’S GETTING COLD. LOOK AT THE FEELS-LIKE TEMPERATURE TWO DEGREES RIGHT NOW IN CRESTON, 19 AS THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE. LAMONI. WELL, STILL SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW DOWN THERE OTHERWISE TEMPERATURE WISE YOU CAN SEE THAT COLDER AIR FILTERING ITS WAY ON IN 12 IN SIOUX CITY. SPENCER AT 15 STILL HAVE SOME AREAS TO THE EAST THAT ARE A DEGREE OR SO ABOVE FREEZING. BUT THAT SNOW IS GOING TO WORK ITS WAY OUT AND BEHIND IT. WE’LL SEE SOME BREAKS IN THE CLOUDS BEFORE OUR NEXT WEAK SYSTEM STARTS TO WORK ITS WAY. IN. THAT’S GOING TO BRING IN SOME CHANCES FOR SNOW AGAIN. SHOULD BE RELATIVELY LIGHT TO THE TUNE OF AROUND A QUARTER INCH OR SO FOR MANY OF US, BUT STILL, FRESH SNOW. AND THEN WE GET OUR NEXT SYSTEM THAT COULD BRING A FEW INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE STATE. WE’LL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THIS ONE FOR ANY CHANGES, BUT YOU CAN SEE AGAIN FRIDAY BY MIDNIGHT WE HAVE BEEN OVERTAKEN BY A SHIELD OF SNOW, SO AS WE HEAD THROUGHOUT THE NEXT 48 TO 72 HOURS, THAT SYSTEM FOR OUR DAY TOMORROW NOT GOING TO BRING A WHOLE LOT. WE’RE TALKING MAYBE AN INCH. FOR MASON CITY, THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH FOR FORT DODGE METRO PICKING UP ON ABOUT A DUSTING ROAD CONDITIONS STILL DIFFICULT. YOU LOOK AT THE METRO, THEN WE’VE GOT SOME BLUE ROADS THERE ON THE METRO NOW, SO THOSE HAVE IMPROVED SLIGHTLY. MASON CITY’S IMPROVED A LOT, THE REST OF THE STATE. IT IS STILL VERY DIFFICULT FOR TRAVEL. PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA TIME IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO HEAD REALLY ANYWHERE. YOU LOOK SOUTH ON 35 AND THOSE ROADS ARE ONLY PARTIALLY. COVERED NOW TOO. SO GOOD TO SEE A LITTLE BIT OF IMPROVEMENT THERE. BUT AGAIN, WE KEEP THE WIND STRONG TONIGHT. THOSE TEMPERATURES DROP SO WE COULD SEE SOME ICE ON THE ROADS TONIGHT. COULD SEE SOME BLOWING SNOW COVER SOME OF THOSE ROADS AGAIN. BUT AS WE HEAD THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY, WINDS WILL LARGELY BE WEAKENING. SO THAT SHOULD HELP US STILL PLAN ON SOME SLICK SPOTS THOUGH. THIS HAS BEEN A TON OF SNOW. IT’S JUST GOING TO TAKE TIME TO GET ALL THOSE ROADS CLEARED OUT THERE. SO LET’S TRACK THINGS OUT FOR YOU. HOUR BY HOUR. HERE YOU CAN SEE AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THAT NEXT SYSTEM FRIDAY 3:00 IN THE MORNING. HEAVIEST SNOW METRO SOUTHWARD THAT’S GOING TO CONTINUE TO PUSH TO THE EAST. AND BY THE AFTERNOON THE HEAVIEST. HAS GONE TO THE EAST. BUT WE’VE STILL GOT SNOW ON THE BACKSIDE OF THIS SYSTEM THAT’S GOING TO BE WORKING ITS WAY ON THROUGH. COULD KEEP SOME SNOW SHOWERS INTO THE DAY ON SATURDAY, BUT THE HEAVIEST WILL HAVE FALLEN ON FRIDAY AND AGAIN COULD. LEAD TO SOME MORE SLICK ROADS FOR US. SOMETHING WE’LL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON AS WE GET A LITTLE BIT CLOSER. WE DON’T HAVE TOTALS ON THAT ONE FOR YOU, JUST YET, BUT LOOK WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND THAT SYSTEM. WE GO FROM 28 TO TOMORROW DOWN TO TWO ON SUNDAY. WE’RE WAKING UP SUNDAY MORNING TO TEN BELOW. COULD BE TALKING WIND CHILLS IN THE MID 20S BELOW. SO AGAIN, DANGEROUS COLD ON THE WAY. THAT’S WHY WE’RE WEATHER AWARE FOR YOUR SUNDAY MORNING BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO BE IMPACTFUL. AND AS WE HEAD THROUGH MLK DAY YOU CAN SEE WE GET A WHOLE DEGREE THERE TEN BELOW TO START
