FORECAST, WE START WITH TREY, WHO’S KEEPING AN EYE ON TOTALS FOR US. TREY. THAT’S RIGHT ALEX. AND AS A MATTER OF FACT, WE JUST GOT A REPORT OUT OF MADISON COUNTY NOW OF SEVEN INCHES OF SNOW JUST TO THE SOUTHWEST OF DES MOINES. AND IT’S BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BAND THAT WE’VE BEEN SITTING THAT WE’VE BEEN SITTING UNDER FOR THE LAST TWO HOURS. RATES OF 1 TO 2IN PER HOUR, WHERE YOU SEE SOME OF THESE DEEP BLUES. SO FROM WATERLOO DOWN TOWARD AMES, MARSHALLTOWN, TAMA, TOLEDO, GRINNELL, DES MOINES, ALL THE WAY DOWN TOWARD WINTERSET AND CRESTON, GETTING VERY HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES RIGHT NOW, YOU CAN SEE THE INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS WITHIN THIS BAND ARE PUSHING FROM SOUTHEAST TO NORTHWEST WEST, BUT THE WHOLE BAND ITSELF IS SLOWLY PROGRESSING OFF TO THE EAST. SO OUR EASTERN AND SOUTHERN COUNTIES THAT HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A DRY SLOT OVERNIGHT WILL SOON START TO GET IN ON THIS MORE LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW RIGHT NOW FROM SHERIDAN DOWN TOWARD LAMONI, CENTERVILLE GETTING IN ON THAT AS WELL, AND THEN OVER TOWARD THE EAST WHERE WE’VE HAD SOME DRIER PATCHES FILLING IN. YOU’RE GOING TO GET IN ON THIS HEAVIER SNOW, AND THAT’S WHERE WE’RE ANTICIPATING THE HIGHEST TOTALS OF THIS STORM TO SET UP UP TO THE NORTHEAST. MARSHALLTOWN UP TOWARD WATERLOO, STILL UNDERNEATH THAT HEAVIER BAND. BUT THEN WE’LL TAKE IT OUT TO THE WEST, WEST OF I 35 HEADED WEST ON HIGHWAY 20, HIGHWAY 30, LIGHTER AMOUNTS, AND EVENTUALLY WITHIN THE NEXT 1 TO 2 HOURS, WE’LL SEE SOME OF THESE LIGHTER RATES PUSH IN AS THE STORM ITSELF BEGINS TO WIND UP AND PULL OFF TO THE EAST, BUT FOR NOW, WE’LL SEND IT OVER TO METEOROLOGIST JOHN RIVAS TO TIME OUT THE REST OF THE STORM. THANKS, TREY. YEAH. AS WE LOOK OUT OVER WEST DES MOINES RIGHT NOW, SEEING THE FLAKES FALLING AS CLOSE TO THAT LIGHT, AND YOU CAN EVEN SEE SOME OF THOSE CARS MOVING VERY SLOWLY AS WE START OFF THIS MORNING, IF YOU CAN. YOU’VE BEEN SAYING IT ALL MORNING. STAY INDOORS. STAY AT HOME IF YOU CAN. LIKE I SAID, IT’S GOING TO BE RATHER TREACHEROUS AS YOU HEAD TO THE STREETS AS TEMPERATURES AROUND 31 FEELS LIKE THE LOW 20S, EVEN UPPER TEENS WITH THE WINDS THAT ARE IN PLACE STARTING TO SEE SOME OF THOSE STRONGER WIND GUNS ALREADY FURTHER WEST OF I 35. BUT WE’RE GOING TO SEE WIDESPREAD 40 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS AS WE GO LATER. MORNING. THIS IS 10 A.M. NOW GOING TO NOON AND INTO THE AFTERNOON. STILL GOING TO BE VERY WINDY OUTSIDE AND THAT’S GOING TO ALLOW FOR THAT BLOWING SNOW TO LEAD TO LOWER VISIBILITIES. AND CONTINUE WITH THOSE VERY SLICK TRAVEL CONDITIONS, EVEN AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. BUT AS WE GO INTO TONIGHT, THE WINDS DO CALM DOWN. THAT IS A GOOD SILVER LINING TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN THIS FORECAST. WINDS ARE GOING TO BE AS STRONG AS WE GO INTO WEDNESDAY. AS THIS SYSTEM EXITS HOUR BY HOUR. AS WE GET TO AROUND NOON. THAT’S WHENEVER I’M EXPECTING. ALONG I-35 THE SNOW TO REALLY START TO TAPER OFF, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE THAT LIGHT, FLUFFY SNOW THAT CAN BE REALLY BLOWING AROUND IN THESE STRONG WINDS. SO WE’RE NOT GOING TO BE OUT OF THE WOODS JUST YET BECAUSE OF THOSE WINDS CAUSING BLOWING SNOW BY 6:00, THE SNOW PRACTICALLY OUT ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE STATE. STILL GOING TO BE HUGGING THE EASTERN BORDER, BUT WE DO SEE THAT REALLY PUSH ON OUT AS WE GO INTO WEDNESDAY. WE GET WE CATCH A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK. NO SNOW EXPECTED THROUGHOUT WEDNESDAY DAY, BUT A CHANCE FOR SOME MORE LIGHT SNOW AS WE GO INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING A
