Iowa weather forecast: Intensity of snow will pick up through the night in metro

Iowa weather forecast: Intensity of snow will pick up through the night in metro
LAST SEVERAL DAYS AS WE SAW THIS RISK OR THIS THREAT OF SNOW APPROACHING OUR AREA. OH, EXACTLY. YEAH. I MEAN, WE KNEW THIS HAD. THE POTENTIAL TO BE A BIGGER SYSTEM, AND THAT’S WHAT WE’RE SEEING UNFOLD RIGHT NOW. SO YOU LOOK OUTSIDE AT THE MOMENT AND YOU CAN SEE SNOW STILL FLYING IN THE METRO. WE’VE GOT DRIER SKIES THOUGH, DOWN NEAR OSCEOLA, EASTWARD TOWARDS SHERIDAN, AND EVEN OFF TO THE SOUTHWEST WE’RE SEEING MORE MOISTURE BUILD ITS WAY IN. SO EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A GAP, STILL REALLY GOOD CHANCES THAT WE PICK UP ON MORE SNOW AND POSSIBLY THE HEAVIEST SNOW THAT WE WILL SEE THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. A LITTLE BIT LIGHTER SNOW NEAR DENISON UPWARDS TOWARDS CARROLL, AND WE EVEN SEE SOME OF THAT SNOW BACK OFF DOWN NEAR CENTERVILLE, WESTWARD TOWARDS CORYDON. BUT YOU LOOK AND YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THAT MOISTURE OFF TO THE SOUTH END OF THE WEST. AND NOW THOSE AREAS OFF TO THE WEST, WE’RE GOING TO BE TAPPING INTO THAT AND ADDING TO OUR SNOW TOTALS. SO THERE ARE SPOTS THAT HAVE POTENTIALLY TWO,. THREE, EVEN FOUR INCHES SO FAR. BUT WE’RE GOING TO BUILD ON. THAT. AND YOU LOOK AT THE VISIBILITY ROADS ARE TREACHEROUS AS WE’VE COVERED TIME AND TIME AGAIN TONIGHT. BUT VISIBILITY IT’S HARD TO SEE OUT THERE. SO WHILE YOU’RE SLIPPING AND SLIDING AROUND, YOU JUST MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO SEE AROUND YOU. SO IF YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ON THE ROADS TONIGHT OR EARLY TOMORROW MORNING, JUST DON’T. IT’S GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT. SO WE’VE GOT UNDER A MILE FOR VISIBILITY FOR THE METRO AMES, IOWA FALLS AND MARSHALLTOWN CENTERVILLE ZERO VISIBILITY AND ZOOMING IN A LITTLE BIT. FURTHER, YOU CAN SEE AREAS LIKE AMES AND MARSHALLTOWN UNDER A MILE TO CRESTON HAS JUST CONTINUED TO SEE SNOWFALL TODAY, AND YOU CAN SEE IT’S BEEN PRETTY. HEAVY OUT THERE. YOU LOOK AT THE LIGHT AND THE SNOWFLAKES PASSING THROUGH THAT. LAMONI RIGHT NOW, THOUGH, IS QUIET AGAIN. WE’VE SEEN THAT LITTLE PATCH OF DRIER AIR START TO WORK ITS WAY IN. THAT’S NOT THE END OF THE SYSTEM. THAT’S JUST THE END OF THE SNOW FOR THE TIME BEING. WE HAVE MORE ON THE WAY OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW HOVERING AROUND FREEZING. SO WHAT WE’RE SEEING IS SLUSH ON THE ROADS AS THOSE TEMPERATURES START TO DECLINE A BIT, WE’LL LIKELY SEE THAT FREEZE A BIT TOO. I KNOW THOSE ROADS HAVE BEEN TREATED, BUT AGAIN, THOSE. TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE DROPPING AND YOU CAN SEE THE. SNOW AS WE HEAD THROUGH 7 A.M. WE ARE STILL INUNDATED WITH THIS. IT’S GOING TO EVENTUALLY START TO SHIFT EASTWARD AS WE HEAD THROUGH LATE MORNING EARLY AFTERNOON. BUT EVEN AFTER THAT, SNOW LEAVES, YOU CAN SEE BEHIND IT. WE’RE STILL DEALING WITH WINDS OF 35 TO 40MPH FOR GUSTS, WHICH COULD SEE THAT SNOW GET BLOWN BACK ON THE ROAD AND MAKE FOR SLICK CONDITIONS ALL OVER AGAIN. SO AS WE HEAD INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING, THOSE WINDS TAPER BACK. WE’RE LEFT WITH CLOUDS, BUT WE COULD SEE MORE SNOW OFF TO THE SOUTHEAST BY WEDNESDAY EVENING AND THEN WE’LL GET ANOTHER CHANCE FOR MORE SNOW INTO THE DAY ON FRIDAY. SO MULTIPLE CHANCES. AND AS WE ZOOM OUT AND LOOK ATRILLIONOAD CONDITIONS, AREAS TO THE SOUTHWEST. AT 100% COVERED SOUTHEAST,. 100% COVERED. IF YOU’RE DRIVING NORTH ON 35, STILL PARTIALLY COVERED. BUT REMEMBER, WE’VE GOT A LOT OF THAT SNOW THAT’S STILL WORKING ITS WAY TO THE NORTH AND IS GOING TO COVER THOSE ROADS AGAIN. SO REALLY DIFFICULT TRAVEL ACROSS THE STATE IF YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE OUT ON THEROADS, PLEASE DON’T. IT’S JUST JST DANGEROUS OUT THERE IN SPOTS. WE’VE GOT TREACHEROUS CONDITIONS FOR SOME OF US. YOU GO WESTWARD EVEN ALL THE WAY ALONG I-80 INTO KEARNEY, NEBRASKA. CARNEY, I THINK IT’S CARNEY. ANYWAY. YEAH, IT’S SLICK OUT THERE. 6 TO 9IN ACROSS A GOOD PORTION OF THE STATE. YOU LOOK TO THE NORTHWEST, SLIGHTLY LOWER NUMBERS 3 TO 6IN. WE COULD EVEN SEE SOME HIGHER TOTALS OFF THROUGH SOUTHEASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE IN EXCESS OF A FOOT POSSIBLE FOR SOME OF US. SO AGAIN, THIS COULD BE A ONE OF THOSE SNOWS THAT’S DIFFICULT TO GET AROUND IN AFTER. AND YOU ZOOM AROUND HERE, YOU CAN SEE SHERIDAN’S ON THAT LINE. GRINNELL IN THE 6 TO 9 AREAS TO THE NORTHWEST, LIKE FORT DODGE UPWARDS TOWARDS STORM LAKE, HANGING OUT AT AROUND 3 TO 6IN. SO. GOT THAT WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT THAT GOES THROUGHOUT THE DAY TOMORROW. AGAIN, WE COULD SEE 6 TO 9IN IN THE METRO, AS WELL AS BLOWING SNOW AND BEHIND THIS SYSTEM, WE’VE GOT A COUPLE MORE CHANCES AS I SHOWED YOU WEDNESDAY, WE’LL HAVE A CHANCE FOR SOME SNOW TO THE SOUTHEAST INTO THE DAY ON FRIDAY. WE WILL LOOK AT THE COLD FOLLOWING THIS. OUR OVERNIGHT LO
