PERRY, Iowa — A 17-year-old opened fire at a small-town Iowa high school on the first day of school after winter break, killing a sixth-grader and wounding seven others Jan. 4, 2024, including four students and three staffers.
Ahmir Jolliff, 11, was killed when a 17-year-old student opened fire in the Perry cafeteria as students were gathering for breakfast before class. On Jan. 14, 10 days after the shooting, high school principal Dan Marburger, died.
Officials from the Perry Community School District announced Wednesday when elementary and middle school students will return to class after last week's deadly school shooting.
Elementary students will go back to class on Thursday, Jan. 18, and middle schoolers will return Friday, Jan. 19, according to a Facebook post. The district says the return for high school students is still being discussed.
