One day after it was approved by both the Iowa House and Iowa Senate, Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed into law a bill that will remove gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act. The proposal was introduced just last week and quickly passed through both sides of the legislature. It drew large crowds of protesters at the Statehouse multiple times this week.Senate File 418 passed in a 33-15 vote Thursday afternoon. House File 583, an identical version, passed less than an hour later with a 60-35 vote.Reynolds signed the bill into law Friday afternoon."Before I signed this bill, the civil rights code blurred the biological line between the sexes," Reynolds said in a video announcement. "I know this is a sensitive issue for some, many of whom have heard misinformation about what this bill does.
