The hot collector items of the 1990s quickly became a cultural phenomenon.
In September of 1999, Ty announced that all Beanies would be retired at the end of the year. At the time, the newly released Christmas collection included a black bear named "The End."
This had everyone wondering at the time, will Beanie Babies disappear forever?

After the announcement, Ty let customers vote on whether the company should continue to make them. Of those who responded, 91% voted to keep Beanie Babies in production.
