To the Editor We read with great interest the study by Gill et al,1 who demonstrated an increased 1-year mortality in patients with geriatric syndromes of frailty and dementia. We agree with the authors’ conclusions that geriatric syndromes should be evaluated by physicians before surgery to improve prognostic performance and lead to discussions with patients and their caregivers about the risks and benefits of surgery.2
