About JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery

JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery is an international peer-reviewed medical journal that provides timely information for physicians and scientists concerned with diseases of the head and neck. The journal first began publication as Archives of Otolaryngology in 1925. JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery is the official publication for the American Head and Neck Society and is a member of the ÌÇÐÄvlog, a consortium of peer-reviewed, general medical and specialty publications.

Journal Frequency and Access. JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery is published online weekly, every Thursday, and in 12 print/online issues a year. The journal receives more than 4.7 million annual article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the website. In addition, the online version is freely available or nearly so to institutions in developing countries through the World Health Organization's program.

Editorial Information. The journal's acceptance rate is 14%. The median time to first decision is 7 days, and 58 days with review. The Journal Impact Factor is 6.1, the second highest ranking among otolaryngology journals. All articles are published online first. Piccirillo, MD, FACS, CPI, Professor of Otolaryngology and Vice Chairman for Research at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, is the editor in chief. Mission Statement. To advance the patient-centered, evidence-based practice of otolaryngology--head and neck surgery by publishing scientifically rigorous and innovative research, reviews, and commentary. Our journal serves as a vital resource for clinicians, researchers, educators, and trainees by providing high-quality, peer-reviewed content focused on improving the understanding and treatment of ear, nose, and throat conditions. We are dedicated to fostering dialogue and action on critical issues in otolaryngology, including the education and training of health care professionals, quality improvement, and the ethics and economics of equitable health care delivery.
