Psychedelic Drugs Might Support Sexual Well-Being, Studies Find

People who used psychedelic drugs tended to report better sex and intimacy after their experience, a recent pair of published in Scientific Reports found. The first study involved 261 participants who used psychedelics recreationally. The second was a randomized trial that evaluated sexual functioning in 59 people with depression after being treated with psilocybin or a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).

Researchers defined sexual functioning to include increased pleasure, arousal, improved communication with partners, and more sexual satisfaction. People who took psychedelic drugs reported positive changes in sexual functioning and satisfaction even 6 months afterward, including the participants who received psilocybin for depression. Those taking SSRIs didn’t see improvement in sexual functioning but both therapies .
