'Please Help Me, Take Me Home': Abandoned dog with heartbreaking note finds hope at a shelter
A dog named Rukey, who was found abandoned last week in a Michigan grocery store parking lot with a sign around her neck, is now looking for a forever home.
In a , the Kent County Animal Shelter (KCAS) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said the dog was found with a handwritten note in a plastic bag that was tied to her collar. It read, "My name is Rukey. Please help me, take me home."
Rukey is now safe and receiving care at the shelter, and the shelter staff has already fallen in love with her gentle personality.
"To the person who had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go — please know that Rukey is safe and deeply loved by our staff. Her gentle personality has already won our hearts, and we will ensure she is cared for and finds a wonderful, loving family. We can only imagine how difficult this choice was for you, and we sincerely hope you find brighter days ahead," KCAS wrote in the Facebook post.
The shelter also reminded residents in the area that "help is available" if "you're struggling to feed yourself or your pet."
"As a reminder, please be kind to yourself and others. We never know the battles someone is silently facing. If you need help, please ask. Our goal is to keep pets and families together, and we will do everything we can to provide resources to support and preserve the human-animal bond," the shelter wrote.
The shelter said in the post that it will provide updates on its Facebook page until Rukey finds her forever home.
