Two brothers called heroes after saving homes in their LA county neighborhood from wildfire
DAYS. BACK TO YOU. ALL RIGHT. OH MY GOD. CHECK THIS OUT. EXCLUSIVE NEW VIDEO OUT OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TONIGHT AS TWO BROTHERS WITH TIES TO SACRAMENTO FIGHT TO SAVE THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD FROM FLAMES. NOW, MANY OF US KNOW SOMEONE IMPACTED DIRECTLY BY THE FIRES. AND ONE SACRAMENTO MOM HAD TO WATCH AS HER SONS CHOSE NOT TO EVACUATE WHEN THE PALISADES FIRE CAME RIGHT TOWARDS THEM. KCRA 3ā€™S CECIL HANNIBAL SHOWS US NOW HOW THE 2ND MAY HAVE SAVED THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD. CECIL. IT GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING FIRST RESPONDERS SAY YOU SHOULD DO. THEY URGED EVERYONE IN THE SANTA MONICA CANYON TO EVACUATE, BUT THEY CANā€™T FORCE ANYONE TO LEAVE. TWO BROTHERS SAY THEYā€™RE NOT LEAVING THEIR FATHERā€™S HOME. AND TO LET THIS FIRE BURN THEIR MEMORIES INTO ASHES. YOU MIGHT CALL THEM CRAZY, BUT TONIGHT THEIR NEIGHBORS ARE CALLING THEM HEROES. OH, HE SAID MOM, IF IT GETS CLOSE, Iā€™M NOT LEAVING. THE WORDS OF TWO SONS DETERMINED TO FIGHT. I JUST HAD THIS DEEP FEELING THAT I KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO BE OKAY. INSIDE CATHY HUNTER CAMACHOā€™S HOME ARE PHOTOS THAT SHOW A LIFE SPENT IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. SHE NOW LIVES IN SACRAMENTO, BUT HER EX-HUSBAND LIVES RIGHT IN THE PATH OF THE PALISADES FIRE. HER TWO ADULT SONS, SEAN AND TIM, RIGHT BY HIS SIDE. OKAY. TURN AROUND. FIRST RESPONDERS SERIOUSLY URGED THE BROTHERS AND THEIR FATHER TO LEAVE LAST TUESDAY. BUT THIS HOME IN SANTA MONICA CANYON BELONGED TO THEIR GRANDMOTHER. NOW THEIR FATHER. SO THEY MADE A CHOICE. MY BROTHERā€™S DECISION WAS, Iā€™M NOT LEAVING. Iā€™M STAYING. Iā€™M FIGHTING. AND MY DECISION IS Iā€™M NOT LEAVING MY BROTHERā€™S SIDE. TIM, THE OLDEST OF THE TWO, WATCHED AS THEIR NEIGHBORS EVACUATED. BY WEDNESDAY, THE WINDS KICKED UP AND FIRE. EMBERS RAIN FROM THE SKY. THEREā€™S NO FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEREā€™S NO OTHER PEOPLE. ITā€™S JUST US ATTACKING AND SAVING THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. FOR NEARLY 30 HOURS, ARMED WITH WATER HOSES AND HANDHELD RADIOS, THE BROTHERS SPRAYED WATER ON EVERY HOME AND LAWN ON THEIR BLOCK, ALONG WITH A HANDFUL OF OTHERS WHO DECIDED TO STAY. WE CAME OUT. WE CAME OUT OF THERE, THE FIRE GETTING AS CLOSE AS FIVE DOORS DOWN. WHEN THE WORST OF IT ENDED, TIM SAYS THEY WERE ABLE TO SAVE NINE HOMES ON THEIR STREET. IF IT WASNā€™T FOR THE FEW OF US THAT STAYED AND KEPT EVERYTHING WET AND ATTACKED, THE SMALL SPOT FIRES AS THEY AROSE, WE WOULD HAVE LOST THIS ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD THE SAME WAY THAT PALISADES DID. YOU KNOW, PEOPLE ARE TELLING US LIKE, YOU GUYS ARE HEROES. YOUā€™RE SAVING THE NEIGHBORHOOD, AND ITā€™S LIKE, WEā€™RE JUST WEā€™RE JUST, YOU KNOW, DOING WHAT WE THINK IS RIGHT, RISKING THEIR LIVES TO SAVE THEIR FAMILYā€™S LEGACY, BUT ALSO GIVING THEIR NEIGHBORS A HOME TO COME BACK TO WHEN SO MANY IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY HAVE LOST EVERYTHING THEIR FIXTURES, THEIR HELPERS, THEY ALWAYS HAVE BEEN THAT WAY. IT JUST SHOWS THEIR CHARACTER. YOU CAN TELL MOM SHE DIDNā€™T NECESSARILY WANT THEM TO STAY, BUT SHE IS PROUD OF WHAT THEYā€™VE DONE. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE AGAIN, THE FIRST RESPONDERS CAME BY AND TOLD THE FAMILY THEY NEED TO EVACUATE, OR THEY COULD LOSE THEIR LIVES. THANKFULLY, THEY ARE ALL OKAY TODAY AND THE OTHER NEIGHBORS ARENā€™T ALLOWED TO COME BACK TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD JUST YET, AND THEIR STREET IS STILL WITHOUT POWER. BUT OTHER PEOPLE IN SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS WITH SUPPLIES HAVE KEPT THEM AFLOAT TO THIS POINT. BUT THAT FIRE THREAT IS NOT OVER, AS YOU KNOW. SO THEY SAY RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE NO PLANS OF LEAVING. THEIR CARS ARE READY JUST IN CASE THEY NEED TO ESCAPE. BUT RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD THAT ACTUALLY WE SAW DURING THE MIDDLE OF OUR INTERVIEW. TAKE A LOOK BREAK IN RIGHT AT THE END OF THE STREET. WE GOT LOOTERS. WE GOT A BREAK IN. WE? YOU ALL RIGHT? ALL RIGHT. YOU YOU REPORT BACK WHAT Iā€™M SAYING. ITā€™S THE WILD WEST OUT HERE. AND WE GOT TO. WE GOT TO PROTECT EACH OTHER. TIM SAYS THATā€™S A DAILY OCCURRENCE. LUCKILY, POLICE WERE ALREADY THERE, AND TIM SAYS THEYā€™VE HAD LOOTERS SHOWING UP ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY. NOW THEYā€™RE DOING THEIR BEST TO SCARE THEM AWAY WHILE ALSO BEING SAFE. THEYā€™RE NOT TRYING TO PRETEND TO BE POLICE. THEY ARE CALLING THE POLICE WHEN THEY SEE THEM. THEY SAVE THEIR NEIGHBORS HOMES AND NOW THEYā€™RE TRYING TO SAVE THEIR NEIGHBORS PERSONAL BELONGINGS AS WELL. GUYS, BACK TO YOU. YEAH.

Two brothers called heroes after saving homes in their LA county neighborhood from wildfire
Two brothers are being called heroes by their neighbors after saving nine homes on their street in the Santa Monica Canyon in Los Angeles.Tim and Sean Hayn grew up in Los Angeles County, but their mother, Kathy Huetter Camacho, lives in Sacramento, where most of their family lives."He said, 'Mom if it gets close, Iā€™m not leaving.' I just had this deep feeling that they were going to be OK," Huetter Camacho told Sacramento sister station KCRA of her sons telling her they would not leave their father's LA home. The Hayn brothers and their father weathered the strong winds and smoke that crept closer and closer."My brother's decision was I'm not leaving, I'm staying, and I'm fighting. My decision is I'm not leaving my brother's side," said Tim Hayn.Last Tuesday, neighbors started evacuating and by Wednesday the fire reached as close as five doors down according to the family.Their father lives in the home that was passed down from his mother. Tim Hayn said their plan was to stay and use water hoses to keep their yard and home saturated. But they quickly expanded the makeshift operation to include the other neighbors on the street. With neighbors' permission they went and turned on the sprinkler system in every yard and connected water hoses at the different homes so they could attack any flare-ups."Nine homes in our direct vicinity got water from us from our hoses and all the hoses from the backyards. If it wasnā€™t for the few of us that stayed and kept everything wet and attacked the small spot fires, we would have lost this entire neighborhood the way the Pacific Palisades did," said Tim Hayn. The Palisades Fire has already destroyed thousands of structures,"You know people are telling us like, 'You guys are heroes, youā€™re saving the neighborhood.' Itā€™s like weā€™re just doing what we think is right," said Tim Hayn.Hayn said first responders urged the family to evacuate out of fear for their safety, but they can't force them to leave. With more strong winds expected this week, the two plan to stick it out while also juggling a new problem: looters."Weā€™re just making sure we donā€™t have flare-ups, but weā€™ve already booted a number of looters. Weā€™re not going anywhere. This is our neighborhood, this is a community effort," said Tim Hayn.
