The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado hit northern Wayne County Tuesday night.

The tornado touched down at 7:12 p.m. southeast of Millerton, and was on the ground for four minutes. In that time, it traveled three miles and produced winds of 85 mph.
At its widest, the tornado spanned 30 yards across.
Over 40 tornadoes in April
Tuesday's storms capped off a busy month of severe weather in Iowa.
At least 41 tornadoes battered the state during April. Most of those occurred on April 16 and April 26, with the strongest being the EF-3 that destroyed much of Minden.
Last April, just five twisters touched down statewide.

Historical peak season still to come
April is not typically the top month for tornadoes in Iowa.
Historically, May and June account for more than half of our tornadoes.
Around 50 tornadoes touch down every year statewide, but the number varies quite a bit. Some years as few as 20 tornadoes occur, while years like 2021 - thanks in part to a historic derecho - can record over 100.
