Here's a clever way to never misplace your tape measure again

If putting it on your belt takes just slightly too much effort

Your trusty tape measure is good for more than just simple measuring if you know all the best tips and tricks, but it's not good for anything if you set it down somewhere and then can't find it when you need it. The easy solution is to always clip it onto your belt, but why do that when you could over-engineer a slightly better (and cooler) one? This tip from This Old House takes a few minutes of upfront work, but will save you precious seconds fiddling with a clip on your belt, and potentially entire minutes of looking for a lost measure. Just glue a magnet to your tape measure, and screw a metal plate to the place on your workbench that you want it to live. You could replace your clip with the magnet, though as commenters on YouTube point out, you might find yourself wishing you hadn't if you're taking measurements, say, on a roof with no metal plate in sight. So maybe glue that magnet to the other side. Or, of course, you could just work at being more dilligent about remembering where you put the thing in the first place. But where's the fun in that?
