If you salivated over the idea of an Amazon Go store coming to your neighborhood , brace yourself. The online mega-retailer doesn’t have plans to open more brick-and-mortar stores in the near future, according to
"It's absolutely not correct," Amazon spokeswoman Pia Arthur told the site in an email. "We have no plans to open 2,000 of anything. Not even close. We are still learning."
On Monday, the that the Seattle-based company hoped to open 2,000 stores across the U.S. Sadly, it’s not true.
Arthur also said that Amazon had no immediate plans to open a massive grocery store that offered food items at discounted prices.
"No plans to build such a store," she added.
Amazon is currently testing its first Amazon Go store in Seattle, a grocery store model where shoppers scan their Amazon app when they enter. Sensors register items that shoppers select and automatically charge them to the app, but not if they put it back. The program is still in beta and set to open to the public next year.
Sigh. Sorry, guys. Looks like you’ll have to wait in the 15-minute checkout line at your local grocery store for a little while longer.
