Since it began streaming in 2007, Netflix has become an unstoppable TV and movie provider. The service is showing no signs of slowing down, as it's preparing to spend $13 billion this year alone on original programming.
According to , Netflix will be ordering so much original content in 2018 — including TV series, comedy specials, documentaries and movies — it's dwarfing major Hollywood studios and big television channels.
This year Netflix is ordering a total of 82 original films, far more than Warner Bros' 23 and Disney's 10.
In fact, investment company Goldman Sachs forecasts by 2022, Netflix might have an annual spending budget of $22.5 billion. That's almost the same as the total spending by all networks in the U.S. combined.
The Economist does point out that Netflix hasn't yet made a profit (in fact it's got an outstanding debt of $8.5 billion) but it's still generating a lot of cash from increasing numbers of subscribers, before plowing that straight into new content.
Netflix clearly isn't concerned about recent research suggesting that its original content, as the ones who are watching have been singing the praises of the likes of "Stranger Things," "Black Mirror" and "Jessica Jones."
