Whether we'd like to admit it or not, fast food is a hallmark of these great United States of America. McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's and Subway are just a handful of the many chains that started out in the USA, and they're a dime a dozen as you drive along interstates and through towns. If you've wondered where you can find the most fast-food joints, just did the number-crunching for you.
is based on fast food restaurants per capita, meaning the ranking goes in order of the most restaurants per 10,000 residents. Coming in first: sweet home , with six-point-three fast food restaurants for every 10,000 Alabamians. Nebraska, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Tennessee rounded out the top five, while New York, New Jersey and Vermont made up the bottom three, with two-point-one, two, and one-point-nine fast-food restaurants per capita each.
By region, the South and the Midwest are holding down the most fast-food spots, whereas the coasts have fewer places to grab fries on the go. The West has three-point-seven fast-food restaurants per capita, and the East (which is really just the Northeast) has two-point-five.
Subway and McDonald's are the most-seen spots. There are 20.9 McDonald's per capita in the city of Orlando, Florida, alone, and 13.9 Mickey D's per capita in Las Vegas, while Subway's account for more than 18 percent of all fast-food restaurants in the country. What the data doesn't account for is where fast-food locations are most frequently visited — but when there's that many Golden Arches around as you head out of Disney World, it's pretty hard to say no.
