But according to Rachel Kelly, author of "The Happiness Diet" which will be released later this year, eating fast food can actually have a negative impact on your emotions.Sharing her expertise with Business Insider, Rachel noted that the portion of fries you'd typically order along with your burger or nuggets is very rich in trans fats. Trans fats upset the balance of omega-3 fatty acids in the body, and research suggests having low levels of these acids can lead to a generally terrible mood. Pessimism, depression and aggression are all repercussions of having a lack of omega-3 fatty acids, according to Rachel.It's not just the food you eat at your local fast-food joint that's likely to cause your mood to crash, though. Diet fizzy drinks can cause your mood to plummet, too. Diet drinks contain the artificial sweetener aspartame in place of sugar; however, scientific studies suggest that an amino acid contained in aspartame has the power to slow down your body's production of serotonin, which regulates your mood. Less serotonin means less happy vibes. Enjoy that burger, but be prepared for the comedown afterward.
