Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" swept the 2018 Emmy Awards.
Moments after winning the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series Amy Sherman-Palladino came right back out from backstage to accept the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
“To my crew, you are everything, I worship you,” Sherman-Palladino said, while making history as the first woman to win in both categories.
Channeling Midge Maisel’s “Thank you and goodnight,” Sherman-Palladino signed off her second Emmys speech of the evening with, “Thank you and goodbye!”
Following Tony Shalhoub’s loss in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category, Alex Borstein and Rachel Brosnahan won Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, respectively.
, Brosnahan thanked Sherman-Palladino and co-producer Dan Palladino “for trusting me with your Midge,” her cast mates, and her friends and family. She also urged all the women who identify with Midge to use their voices right now by voting. “Show up and bring a friend to the polls. Thank you so much!”
The cherry on top of the already golden evening arrived in the final 13 minutes of the broadcast when presenter Will Ferrell named "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" Outstanding Comedy Series, beating "Atlanta," "Barry," "Black-ish," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "GLOW," "Silicon Valley" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."
Amazon is expected to roll out season two later this fall.
