Madison County Board of Supervisors clash over auditor position

Madison County Board of Supervisors clash over auditor position
NOW. COME ON. BOY, KNOCK IT OFF. BULLY BULLY. BULLY. EXACTLY. THAT’S WHAT A BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING SOUNDED LIKE TODAY IN MADISON COUNTY. THINGS GOT HEATED BETWEEN SUPERVISORS, AND SOME PEOPLE ATTENDING WERE THREATENED TO BE REMOVED OVER A VOTE MADE TODAY. vlog. HAS BEEN FOLLOWING THIS SINCE THE LAST TIME THIS ISSUE WAS ON THE AGENDA. AND PEPPER SOME FIREWORKS AGAIN TODAY. THAT’S CORRECT BEN. AND IT’S ALL BECAUSE THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS BOARD HAS TRIED TO HIRE A WOMAN NAMED LESLIE BECK INTO THE AUDITOR’S OFFICE. THE MEASURE WAS TABLED AFTER PUBLIC BACKLASH IN JANUARY, AND TODAY IT FAILED ALTOGETHER, A TOPIC SPARKING CONCERN IN JANUARY IS DRAWING REACTIONS. OH, COME ON. OH, KNOCK IT OFF. BULLY. THIS IS NOT A PUBLIC COMMENT SECTION. IT’S NOT A BULLY SESSION EITHER. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE ASKED TO LEAVE IF YOU DON’T STOP ANYONE. EXCUSE ME? ANYONE IN HERE WHO CONTINUES TO SPEAK WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. OVER ONE CONTROVERSIAL HIRE. LESLIE. BACK IN JANUARY, vlog TOLD YOU. DOZENS PACKED AT THE MADISON COUNTY ANNEX’S BASEMENT THE FIRST TIME HONORED TERRY KUCZYNSKI HOPED TO HIRE LESLIE BECK. SHE’S THE MADISON COUNTY GOP CO-CHAIR AND WAS KUCZYNSKI’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER. CONCERNS ABOUT HIRING TRANSPARENCY LED THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO TABLE THAT ATTEMPT, BECAUSE THE ITEM CREATED BECK’S NEW ROLE IN THE AUDITOR’S OFFICE AND HIRED HER ALL IN ONE MOTION. THEN COUNTY AUDITOR TERRY KUCZYNSKI ANNOUNCED HER OFFICE WAS HIRING A CONSULTING FIRM TO HELP HER ADDRESS. SEVERAL INHERITED ISSUES WITH THE OFFICE THAT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, ACCORDING TO A STATEMENT POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THAT ALSO SPARKED BACKLASH BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO ANOTHER SOCIAL MEDIA POST BY ZELENSKYY, BECK WORKED FOR THAT FIRM. THE FIRM SERVICES WERE PAUSED ON FEBRUARY 6TH. DURING TODAY’S MEETING, KUCZYNSKI SAYS SHE HAD THE POSITION POSTED FOR TEN DAYS BEFORE TRYING TO HIRE BECK. DO WE WANT TO PUT THE COUNTY IN JEOPARDY OF THE OFFICE BEING SO UNDERSTAFFED NOW THAT IT DOESN’T HAVE THE STAFF TO PROCESS BILLS OR PAYROLL? MAYBE YOU HAVE SOMEBODY FROM THE PUBLIC THAT WANTS TO JUMP IN AND HELP, BECAUSE THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN HERE. SOME OF THE MEETINGS SUPPORTED HER. SHE’S GOT A GOOD EMPLOYEE NAMED LESLIE THAT’S HELPING HER. ALSO IN THE OFFICE. WE DON’T KNOW WHAT WE WOULD DO WITHOUT HER. OTHERS SAID THE MOVE IS STILL UNACCEPTABLE. THE MADISON COUNTY AUDITOR HAS CIRCUMVENTED BEST HIRING PRACTICES YET AGAIN BY PUTTING FORTH A RESOLUTION TO HIRE LESLIE BECK. THE VOTE ULTIMATELY FAILED TO PASS IN A TIE. SUPERVISOR CHAIR HEATHER STANSELL SAID SHE HAD TO ABSTAIN BECAUSE BECK IS FUNDRAISING FOR STANFILL’S HUSBAND. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST LESLIE BECK. I DON’T REALLY KNOW LESLIE BECK. SHE’S PROBABLY INCREDIBLY COMPETENT, BUT I WANT THINGS TO LOOK IN ORDER. I WANT THINGS TO BE TRANSPARENT AND IN A KIND OF A TIMELINE. AFTER THE VOTE, STANSELL SPOKE. WE HAVE TO TRUST OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS THAT THEY HIRE WHO THEY WANT. AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU ARE INTENTIONALLY SABOTAGING THIS PARTICULAR POLITICAL OFFICE BECAUSE YOUR PREFERRED CANDIDATE DID NOT WIN. THAT IS YOUR PREFERRED CANDIDATE THAT YOU DONATED TO. YOU ARE SO OUT OF ORDER. I HAD TO I TOOK THAT MONEY BACK JUST AS YOU DID. I’M DONE. YOU STOP. AND vlog DID ATTEMPT TO CONTACT KUCZYNSKI MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS STORY AIRED. SHE DID NOT RESPOND. WE DID CONTACT LESLIE BECK, WHO SAID SHE IS CONSULTING WITH HER LAWYER. BUT BEFORE SPEAKING WITH ANY MEDIA.
