New hires on hold at Madison County after resolution sparks public backlash
A plan to create two new positions in Madison County was tabled by the Board of Supervisors Wednesday after dozens showed up to the meeting to voice concerns about the plan.
Tuesday afternoon, public notice was sent out scheduling the board to meet and consider a resolution to create two new part-time clerk positions at the county auditors office. The resolution would also hire a person into one of the roles.
However, people who are opposed say creating and hiring someone into a position in one motion is unfair to other potential candidates.
"It seems that a decision to hire support staff ... has been made rather hastily," Madison County woman Vicky Brenner said. "We have processes in place here in Madison County, we have hiring practices, we have a great HR person. So I was a little concerned that we seemed to be putting the cart before the horse."
vlog checked web archives of the and was unable to find the clerk position listed.
Dozens crowded into the Madison County Annex basement to show their disapproval for the resolution, but many decided not to speak as planned. Before the floor was opened up for public comment, the board voted to table the issue so they might reconsider the process they should follow to create the new roles.
Madison County Supervisor Diane Fitch also voiced concern about the process during the meeting.
"There should be a clear job description. I think we settled that today, and I think we are all in agreement with that," Fitch said before closing the meeting.
