Editorial: Caitlin Clark won more than just basketball games as an Iowa Hawkeye
Haven't we been lucky to witness the greatness of Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeye women?
Yes, we've seen spectacular basketball. But more, we've had a courtside seat to the seismic transformation of the women's game.
Records have fallen. Arenas have sold out. Ratings and ticket prices have soared. Sunday's Women's National Championship game had 18.9 million viewers – more than 4 million more than the men's championship. A first.
The Women's game has become THE talk around offices and checkout lines everywhere. Almost entirely due to the play of the hometown girl from West Des Moines. Is she the GOAT? No women's basketball scoring leader or national champion has ever done what Caitlin Clark has for the game of basketball. Period.
She won more than trophies and fans for the Hawkeyes. She won fans of the women's game. It's possible, the transformation she led, is also helping break down stereotypes. After all, as we watched reactions to every new milestone and moment, it was clear, our female athletes are still held to different expectations than their male counterparts.

Through it all, Caitlin Clark carried an unbelievable weight. She carried the personal pressure of winning and breaking records. She carried the expectations of Hawkeye fans. She shouldered the burden of transforming an entire sport.
But on the biggest stage, there she was. Performing. And transforming. With grace. And in doing that she paved the way for the next generation of female athletes. In our book, this certainly qualifies her to be called the Greatest of All Time.
