TAILGATE YOU’RE HERE TONS OF STORIES WALK AROUND A TAILGATE AT KINNICK AND YOU MIGHT STUMBLE UPON ONE THAT’S A CENTURY YEAR OLD. CENTURY OLD. EXCUSE ME, THE RACKER FAMILY TAILGATE HAS SEEN IT ALL. AND YESTERDAY THEIR TAILGATE TURNED 100 YEARS OLD. IT STARTED WHEN A M RACKER, A DENTAL STUDENT, WENT TO THE IOWA FOOTBALL GAMES ALL THE WAY BACK IN 1924. AND FROM THEN ON OUT, THE TRADITION HAS LIVED ON. THE FAMILY HAS HAD SEASON TICKETS FOR 98 OF THE LAST 100 YEARS. THE TWO THEY MISSED AM WAS SERVING IN THE ARMY DURING WORLD WAR TWO. IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR YOU’LL ONLY FIND IN A COLLEGE FOOTBALL TAILGATE AND HOPEFULLY IT GOES ON FOR ANOTHER HUNDRED YEARS AS IT’S REALLY HARD TO CAPTURE. BUT IT’S BEEN ABOUT TRADITION AND LEGACY AND FAMILY MEMORIES AND IT’S SO MUCH BIGGER THAN FOOTBALL. IT’S TRADITION AND MEMORIES AND TO HAVE A NEPHEW HERE AND OUR CHILDREN AND MULTIPLE GENERATIONS AND NOW OUR FIFTH GENERATION COMING INTO THE STADIUM AND SO MANY HAPPY MEMORIES OF GREAT DAYS TAILGATING, LET ALONE GREAT FOOTBALL GAMES. I THINK WE’VE GOT A REALLY GOOD START BECAUSE I THINK ABOUT LITTLE SOPHIA HERE JUST A YEAR AND A FEW MONTHS OLD, AND KINNICK STADIUM. AND WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE WHEN SHE’S 50 AND 60 AND 70 AND BRINGING HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN? SO I DON’T KNOW. WHAT DO YOU THINK WE REFLECT ON THE PASSAGE OF TIME. I REMEMBER SKINNING MY KNEE IN THIS PARKING LOT, DIVING FOR PASSES THAT WERE THROWN BY MY COUSIN EMILY OR MY COUSIN MAX. NOW I’M GROWN. I HAVE A KID HERE THESE SEVEN SATURDAYS A YEAR, OUR DAYS THAT WE CHERISH SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY. INCREDIBLE H
