Recap: Rocco Becht leads miraculous touchdown drive in Iowa State's comeback over UCF
AUTO GROUP. WELL, 86 YEARS, RIGHT? SINCE IOWA STATE’S BEEN SEVEN AND, OH, IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL, BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS ARE WHAT WE HAVE TO RELIVE. THOSE HISTORIC MOMENTS. 86 YEARS. AND SOME FANS MIGHT HAVE HAD SOME HEART ATTACKS TONIGHT. IOWA STATE SEEKING THAT PERFECT START FACING UCF FOR THE FIRST TIME. AND THIS IS A BARN BURNER. IOWA STATE FACING A NEW QUARTERBACK FOR THE KNIGHTS. JAKARI BROWN, TRANSFER FROM MIAMI. HE’S SHIFTY. TAKES IT IN ON THE READ OPTION AT SEVEN. NOTHING EARLY FOR THE KNIGHTS. THE BELL COW IN THE FIRST HALF FOR IOWA STATE WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE CARSON HANSON. THERE HE GOES. 57 YARDS TO THE HOUSE. IOWA STATE TIES THE GAME AT SEVEN. HANSON WOULD FIND PAYDIRT AGAIN IN THE FIRST QUARTER, THIS TIME IT WOULD BE FROM JUST FIVE YARDS OUT. HEY, THEY STILL ALL COUNT THE SAME. IOWA STATE TAKES A 14 SEVEN LEAD TIED AT 14, AND UCF WITH THE BALL. AND THIS IS A BAD THROW BY BROWN. AND PICKED OFF BY BEAU FREYLER. SO IMMEDIATELY SOME MOMENTUM SHIFTING TO THE CYCLONES. BUT THAT MOMENTUM SHIFTS RIGHT BACK. ROCCO BACKED WITH ABOUT A MINUTE 30 TO PLAY. THIS IS BAD. PICKED OFF HERE BRANDON ADAMS AND HE HAS 63 YARDS OF GREEN AHEAD OF HIM. THAT’S A PICK SIX. AND IOWA STATE WOULD HEAD INTO THE HALF TRAILING 2114 INTO THE THIRD. WE GO IOWA STATE FOUND THE END ZONE TWICE DOWN 2814 ROCCO BACK TO QB SNEAK. IT’S 2821. SO SLOWLY BUT SURELY THE CYCLONES BATTLING THEIR WAY BACK INTO THIS GAME, TRYING TO KEEP THIS UNDEFEATED SEASON ALIVE. AND THEY’RE GOING TO FIND THE END ZONE AGAIN, THIS TIME BACKED JADEN HIGGINS. HE’S IN. THEY WOULD MISS THE P-A-T. IT WAS BLOCKED. SO IT’S 2827. AND HERE COMES ANOTHER CRUCIAL MISTAKE BY ROCCO. BACK. THIS BALL IS THROWN TO JAYLEN NOWELL. IT’S OFF HIS HANDS PICKED OFF BY BRADEN MARSHALL. AND THIS SHOULD BE A PICK SIX. BUT HE DROPS THE BALL AT THE ONE YARD LINE. IT ROLLS INTO THE ENDZONE. NO ONE RECOVERS IT. SO INSTEAD OF A TOUCHDOWN INSTEAD OF A FUMBLE RECOVERY THE KNIGHTS GET THE BALL AT THE ONE THEY PUNCH IT IN. IT’S 3527. AFTER THAT, AND WE THOUGHT THAT WAS GOING TO BE IT. NO, IOWA STATE HAS JUST SCORED IT IS 3835. WE DON’T HAVE THAT HIGHLIGHT FOR YOU. 3835 30S TO GO. WE GOT TO SEND THIS OUT TO SHANNON EARHART WHO IS IN JACK TRICE RIGHT NOW. SO NO MORE JOB. THE FANS JUST GOT DONE SINGING MR. BRIGHTSIDE. IT IS A ROCK SHOW HERE. LITERALLY. ROCCO HAS BEEN OUT OF THIS WORLD. HE JUST PUNCHED THE BALL IN ON THE ONE YARD LINE FOR THE GO AHEAD TOUCHDOWN. AND THEN PUNCHED IN THE TWO POINTS TO GO UP 3835. HERE’S 25 SECONDS ON THIS CLOCK. THE UCF FANS ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS CAMERA. I DON’T WANT TO SHOW YOU THEM BECAUSE THESE FANS BEHIND ME ARE ROCKING. LET ME READ YOU ROCCO’S STATS SO FAR. 274 PASSING YARDS, ONE TOUCHDOWN, 20 FOR 46. THIS IS A CAREER HIGH IN RUSHING YARDS 97 YARDS ON 20 AND TEN TWO TOUCHDOWNS. HE IS ABSOLUTELY CALMING. AND SO IS THIS OFFENSE. THERE’S STILL TIME ON THIS CLOCK THOUGH IN THE UCF QUARTERBACK JAKARI BROWN HAS BEEN ELECTRIC. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE HE’S BEING SHUT DOWN RIGHT NOW. SCRAMBLING ALL OVER THE PLACE. THAT WASTE ABOUT 11 12 SECONDS OFF THE CLOCK. THERE’S STILL TIME IOWA STATE IS MOMENTS AWAY FROM BEING SEVEN ZERO. THAT IS, IT’S THE FOURTH BEST DEFENSE IN THE COUNTRY CAN COME UP BIG FOR THE CYCLONES. WE’LL HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. WE’LL HAVE THE HIGHLIGHTS. WE HAVE CHRIS HABERMAN, WHO’S SHOOTING THE GAME FOR ME ON THE OTHER SIDE, CAN’T SHOW YOU THE FIELD, BUT THIS ATMOSPHERE IS ELECTRIC. THEY WOKE UP ESPECIALLY LATE IN THE GAME. IT’S A BARN BURNE

The Knights are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play.

UCF enters the road trip to Ames with a three-game losing streak and a quarterback controversy. Coach Gus Malzahn has not named a QB starter yet. Arkansas transfer KJ Jefferson started the first five games of the season, but he was benched last week before a loss at home to Cincinnati.

When UCF is at its best, however, the QB position won't require much throwing. The Knights were putting up historic rushing numbers early in the season when they started 3-0, tallying 1,127 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in those games.

Defensively, the Knights have been vulnerable through the air. TCU quarterback Josh Hoover put up 402 passing yards and four touchdowns in a 35-34 loss to UCF. Florida utilized two quarterbacks in its win vs. UCF, but both were effective, combining for 229 passing yards and an 85% completion rate.
