Iowa State fans, players head to Texas for Big 12 Championship Game
Friday was a busy day for the Iowa State University football team and fans: travel day to Texas for the Big 12 Championship Game.
The Iowa State football team and support staff boarded their chartered plane and took flight just before 2 p.m. Friday.
Some fans got a jump start on their trip to Texas by leaving Friday morning.
We met the Fletchers, Mark and Katie, along with the cyclone gear they packed ahead of their flight south.
"We have a 10-win season. So we are hoping to build on that. And again, get as far as we can in the playoff and win a natty," said Mark Fletcher, an Iowa State football fan.
Not only fans departed from the Des Moines airport to the Big 12 Championship Game. Students were also boarding flights to leave.
Junior Mario Passini is taking an analytical approach to what he is confident will be a conference championship trophy returning with the team to Ames.
"We've been improving as the year went on. The defense is looking pretty good, Passini said. "The offense has been looking good. So it will be a good game."
Pat and Sarah Dolphin are longtime Cyclone football fans. They canceled their weekend trip to New York City.
They were not going to miss their chance to watch the Clones battle for the conference championship.
"I went the last time they played down there during COVID," Sarah Dolphin said. "So I'm expecting a way different experience this time. And I'm expecting a win this time."
The ISU fans we spoke with say they are confident the Cyclones will return to Ames as Big 12 Conference champions.
