Iowa Senate advances two LGBTQ-related bills

Iowa Senate advances two LGBTQ-related bills
EXPIRE NEXT JUNE. TONIGHT, REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS IN THE IOWA SENATE PASSED TWO CONTROVERSIAL LGBTQ BILLS. THIS IS A LIVE LOOK AT THE STATE HOUSE WHERE LAWMAKERS ARE WRAPPING UP. ONE MEASURE PROHIBITS TRANSGENDER PEOPLE FROM USING PUBLIC SCHOOL RESTROOMS THAT DON’T CORRESPOND WITH THEIR BIOLOGIC SEX. vlog. KAYLA JAMES. AMES HAS BEEN AT THE STATE HOUSE FOLLOWING THE DEBATE TONIGHT. KEILAR LAWMAKERS ARE ALSO TALKING ABOUT GENDER TRANSITION SURGERIES. YES, THAT’S RIGHT. IT WAS A LATE NIGHT FOR A STATE SENATOR AS THEY’VE BEEN DEBATING FOR ABOUT EIGHT PLUS HOURS NOW. THEY JUST RECENTLY AFTER 9:00 PASSED A BILL BANNING GENDER AFFIRMING PROCEDURES FOR IOWANS UNDER THE AGE OF 18. NOW, REPUBLICANS ARGUE THIS WILL PROTECT KIDS. MEANWHILE, DEMOCRATS SAY A MEASURE LIKE THIS COULD BE DEADLY. THE SINGLE GREATEST THREAT TO A TRANSGENDER KID IN THE STATE OF IOWA IS REJECTION BY THEIR FAMILY OR COMMUNITY, WHICH IS WHY OVER 40% OF TRANSGENDER KIDS HAVE SUICIDAL IDEATION OR THOUGHT THE CHILD LACKS MATURITY TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT OR TO EVEN VOTE TO GET A TATTOO. HOW CAN THEY BE MATURE ENOUGH TO CONSENT TO EXPERIMENT AT ALL? IRREVERSIBLE ALL PROCEDURES FOR READING. AND THIS BILL PREVENTS GENDER TRANSITION PROCEDURES FOR IOWA MINORS. BEYOND SURGERY, THE BILL LOOKS TO BAN PUBERTY BLOCKERS AND HORMONE THERAPY. THE OTHER LGBTQ PLUS BILL PASSED TONIGHT TELLS IOWANS WHICH BATHROOMS THEY CAN USE. IT WILL REQUIRE THEM TO ONLY USE LOCKER ROOMS AND RESTROOMS THAT CORRESPOND AND WITH THE SEX ON THEIR PERSON. TYPICAL IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. DEAD WILL CAUSE CHILDREN NOT TO GO TO THE BATHROOM ALL DAY. IT WILL CAUSE THEM TO FEEL AS BEING OUTED AND HARASSED AND HAS MADE THEM TO BE FEEL LESS THAN THESE YOUNG IOWA STUDENTS DESERVE TO BE SAFE, DESERVE TO BE RESPECTED, AND DESERVE TO GROW UP TO BE THE PEOPLE THEY WERE MEANT TO BE. WE CANNOT SACRIFICE THE RIGHTS AND PRIVACY OF SOME STUDENTS TO ACCOMMODATE THE RIGHTS AND PRIVACY OF OTHERS. I ENCOURAGE A YES VOTE. THANK YOU. NOW THE BILL GIVES IOWANS POWER TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT IF THEY THINK SOMEONE IS USING THE WRONG BATHROOM AT SCHOOL. THOSE COMPLAINTS ARE RECEIVED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, WHO HAS BEEN DIRECTED TO INVEST DATE IT. IT PASSED NIGHT ALONG PARTY LINES. NOW BOTH BILLS NOW NEED APPROVAL BY THE HOUSE. WELL, YOU KNOW THE GENDER TRANSITION SURGERY TOPIC IS ON THE DEBATE CALENDAR FOR TOMORROW. YOU CAN CONTINUE TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH US TOMORROW AT FOUR, FIVE AND SIX ON vlog EIGHT NEWS LIVE AT THE STATE
