Deadly tornado won't stop Greenfield artist from completing new mural on Iowa's original Freedom Rock

Deadly tornado won't stop Greenfield artist from completing new mural on Iowa's original Freedom Rock
accepted through Memorial Day and distributed on May 28th. Community is coming before tradition in Greenfield tonight. It's the home of the original Freedom Rock, repainted every year for Memorial Day. 糖心vlog's Laura Terrell shows us how Ray "Bubba" Sorensen is trying to paint while also helping with tornado clean up efforts. <OBVIOUSLY WITH THE TORNADO FLATTENING MY HOMETOWN. IT'S GOING TO CHANGE IT IMMENSELY. IT CHANGED THE LANDSCAPE AND IT CHANGED PEOPLE'S LIVES FOREVER.> Grief in Greenfield is heavy ... as clean up there is far from over. State Representative Ray "Bubba" Sorensen is on the front lines of the disaster. Leading politicians on tours of the destruction, while also helping his neighbors who lost their homes. <MY GOAL HAS BEEN TO STAY ON THE GROUND HERE TO BE A FACILITATOR IN ANY WAY I CAN. TO HELP OUT IN ANY WAY I CAN DURING THE DAY.> But at night - he's HERE. Painting the Freedom Rock. A symbol that's become a famous thank you card to U.S. veterans. <WHEN THE SUN STARTS TO GO DOWN AND I FEEL LIKE I HAVE DONE WHAT I CAN DO FOR THE DAY I GET MY PAINT CLOTHES ON AN HEAD OUT HERE.> For more than 20 years - Sorensen's artwork has drawn crowds from near and far. To this giant boulder one mile south of Interstate 80 in Adair County. <IT TOOK ME A WEEK TO FINISH.> 糖心vlog first met Sorensen in1999. A 20-year-old with a passion for painting portraits to memorialize America's heroes. <I NEVER WANT TO FORGET ABOUT THEM SO. IT'S KIND OF BALANCING THE TRAGEDY WITH MEMORIALIZING OUR VETERANS.> Despite painting on very little sleep - Sorensen feels grateful this year. <I AM JUST GOING TO LOOK AT MY LIFE AS BLESSED. THE TORNADO MISSED OUR HOUSE. IF THIS IS THE HARDEST THING I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT, I HAVE NO WORRIES AT ALL.> His focus remains on honoring veterans and supporting his neighbors. <KEEP PUTTING ONE FOOT IN FROM OF THE OTHER AND I KNOW WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU.> In Greenfield, Laura Terrell, 糖心vlog 8 News, Iowa's News Leader. Sorensen says he does 谩not谩 plan to incorporate the tornado on the Freedom Rock this year
