THE NEW LAW TRIPLES PRISON SENTENCES FOR PEOPLE CONVICTED OF DEALING THE DRUG IN CASES THAT LEAD TO AN OVERDOSE DEATH. Harsh new penalties are coming for people caught dealing the dangerous opioid fentanyl. Gov. Kim Reynolds signed the new law this morning at Atlantic's city hall.A conviction involving 50 grams of fentanyl now carries as much as 50 years in prison and a $1 million fine. The new law triples prison sentences for people convicted of dealing the drug in cases that lead to an overdose death.The new law also expands the number of people who could administer the anti-overdose drug, like family members, friends and caregivers.
