Instead of a fancy gown, Actress Jenifer Lewis wore a head-to-toe Nike ensemble at the Emmy Awards tonight. The "Black-ish" star proudly stepped out in a red and black sweatshirt with the brand's logo, including a bedazzled swoosh, black leggings and sneakers. She said the outfit was custom made."I am wearing Nike to applaud them for supporting Colin Kaepernick and his protest against racial injustice and police brutality," Lewis told Variety on the red carpet this evening. She said that she came up with the idea while going for a dip. "I was actually swimming the other day, and I was like, 'What can I do? What can I do that's meaningful?'" she said. "I'll wear Nike," Lewis said. "I'll wear Nike to say thank you. Thank you for leading the resistance. We need more (of) corporate America to stand up also. These are not dark times, these are awakening times. And we all have to wake up."She also added a message for Kaepernick himself. "Thank you, Colin," she said to the camera, appearing to tear up. "Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for being courageous. Thank you for taking a knee. Thank you."Earlier this month, Nike unveiled the former 49ers quarterback as the face of its 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign. The initial ads starring the athlete read, "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything"— a nod to his peaceful protests against police brutality and racial injustice, in which he knelt during the play of national anthem at his games. The brand also released a full-length commercial starring Kaepernick and other inspiring athletes, including Serena Williams.
