Drake women's basketball takes MVC championship on Anna Miller buzzer-beater
THESE MOMENTS, OKAY? DESPITE TALKING ABOUT DRAKE, DESPITE THE WOMEN GOING 19 AND ONE IN THE VALLEY, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THE NCAA TOURNAMENT WITHOUT A WIN IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ON SUNDAY IN MOLINE. SO OF COURSE, OUR JEFF DUBROF HIT THE ROAD TO SEE SOME DRAMA. AND MAN, WHAT A FUN TRIP IT WAS. HERE’S JEFF, THIS IS WHAT MARCH IS ALL ABOUT. MARCH MADNESS BRINGING THE UNPREDICTABLE AND DRAKE’S MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE TITLE WIN DELIVERED AND THEN SOME LADIES DELIVERING COMPANY CAME READY TO PLAY. DINNEBIER WAS SUPERB TO START THIS GAME. A FAKE TO THE INSIDE THEN DECIDES STEP BACK AND DRILLS THIS THREE. SHE HAD TEN OF DRAKE’S FIRST 14 POINTS. DRAKE LED BY NINE AFTER ONE QUARTER. SECOND QUARTER DAWGS LEADING ONCE MORE. WHAT A PASS HERE FROM TAYLOR MCCAULEY TO THE CUTTING. GRACE BERG. BURR HAD TEN IN THE FIRST HALF ALONE, AND DRAKE LED BY THREE HEADING INTO THE BREAK. LET’S GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FINAL QUARTER. DRAKE UP 7270. BULLDOGS WORKING DOWN LOW TO ANNA BO, WHO HITS THE CLUTCH SHOT UNDERNEATH. DRAKE LEAD IS FOUR, BUT MISSOURI STATE IMMEDIATELY RESPONDS. LACEY STOKES FINDING PAIGE ROCHA IN THE CORNER WIDE OPEN FOR THREE. HOLD ON NOW AT 7473, ENSUING MISSOURI STATE POSSESSION, THE LADY BEARS RUN IT THROUGH LACEY STOKES AND HER FLOATER IS GOOD. DRAKE ALL OF A SUDDEN FINDS THEMSELVES DOWN ONE WITH 2.6 SECONDS TO GO IN THE GAME. EVERYONE ON THE TEAM SAID THEY KNEW IT WAS GOING TO NUMBER 14. ANNA BO FOR THE TITLE. IT ROLLS IN. DRAKE WINS. THE DOGS ARE THE VALLEY CHAMPIONS FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON, HEADED BACK TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT ON THE HEROICS OF ANNA MILLER’S GAME WINNING SHOT IN THE MOST DRAMATIC WAY POSSIBLE, THE DOGS WIN ON FINAL SCORE FROM THIS ONE, 7675. ANOTHER ONE. IN THE BEGINNING, I WAS GOING TO THROW UP KIND OF, BUT, UM, I WAS I WAS AFTER, YOU KNOW, CALM DOWN A LITTLE BIT. AND THEN SHE JUST CALLED UP THE PLAY AND I WAS SO CONFIDENT THAT WHOEVER GOT THE BALL, IT WAS GOING TO GO IN. UM, AND SO IT HAPPENED TO BE ME. AND IT WENT IN. AND I’M JUST SO GRATEFUL. IT’S AMAZING. I WOULDN’T WANT ANY OTHER WAY. MY SENIOR SEASON. WE’RE GONNA GO DANCING, BABY. I’M JUST EXCITED TO WATCH THE, UH, SELECTION SHOW AND SEE WHERE WE END UP. BUT TONIGHT WILL BE A GOOD RESET, AND THEN WE’RE BACK TO WORK TOMORROW. I’M STILL IN SHOCK. I MEAN, I’M SO HAPPY. SO PROUD OF US. UM, DIDN’T HAVE A DOUBT. I REALLY KNEW IT WAS GOING IN. AND BO MADE A SHOT, MADE THE BASKET. I COULDN’T BE MORE PROUD OF HER. OUR TEAM HAS BEEN VERY, VERY RESILIENT ALL YEAR LONG, AND THEY’VE JUST. YOU KNOW, HAD THE TENACITY TO BE ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT. AND, YOU KNOW, 2.6 SECONDS FIGURED IT OUT. REPORTING FROM MOLINE, ILLINOIS
