The first look at Mary Poppins Returns is charming, heartwarming, funny and practically every other superlative that you'd want it to be.The sequel, which is 50 years in the making, premiered a 90-second teaser during Sunday night's Academy Awards. The clip does quite a handy job recapturing the majesty and whimsy of the original Disney classic — watch it below:Mary Poppins Returns takes place 20 years on from the magical nanny (Emily Blunt) bidding farewell to the Banks children — and it's safe to say Jane and Michael's lives have been fairly crap ever since.She arrives back on Cherry Tree Lane to brighten the fortunes of the now-grown Banks kids (Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw), and their own little ones, after a family tragedy.Disney's sneak peek doesn't offer much else in terms of plot, only showing Mary briefly near the end of the trailer. After floating down from the skies over London, she's greeted by a delighted Jane and Michael at their home on Cherry Tree Lane."Mary Poppins, it is wonderful to see you," Michael tells her, with Mary smirking in return: "Yes it is, isn't?"The nanny adjusts her flawless overcoat in the mirror, before walking off and leaving her grinning reflection looking on in the mirror even as she bustles away. That Mary is always up to something!Sunday's trailer also introduced Hamilton virtuoso Lin-Manuel Miranda as the new lamplighter Jack, but don't worry! Dick Van Dyke has a cameo in Mary Poppins Returns too, in a new role as the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank's overseer Mr. Dawes Jr.Alas, it doesn't look like Julie Andrews will be turning up alongside her old co-star. Director Rob Marshall said last year that Andrews had turned down his offer for a role, despite giving her blessing to the project.Mary Poppins Returns will arrive in UK cinemas on December 21 and hits the US on Christmas Day (December 25).
