SENIOR POLICE OFFICER KADE MORITZ WALKED OUT OF MERCYONE MEDICAL CENTER JUST EIGHT DAYS AFTER HE WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD. HE’LL NOW CONTINUE HIS CARE AT A REHAB FACILITY. NOW, OFFICERS LINED UP TO SUPPORT MORITZ AS HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL TUESDAY. YOU CAN SEE HIM IN THE MIDDLE THERE. YOU CAN ALSO SEE SENIOR POLICE OFFICER JACOB BO COUGH IN THAT PICTURE. HE’S WEARING A CAST AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE ARM IN THE SAME SHOOTING INCIDENT. HE SPENT A SHORT TIME IN THE HOSPITAL. NOW BOTH OFFICERS WERE SHOT DURING A TRAFFIC STOP ON SEPTEMBER 16TH. THEY WERE TRYING TO PULL OVER A VEHICLE ON EASTON BOULEVARD. POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT, JOSHUA GREEN, FAILED TO STOP. GREEN THEN LED POLICE ON A CHASE AND CRASHED. POLICE SAY GREEN PULLED A GUN ON OFFICERS AND STARTED FIRING. THEY FIRED BACK, KILLING GREEN. NOW CAPTAIN CHAD STEPHAN AND SENIOR POLICE OFFICER FRANKIE CONTRERAS WERE ALSO AT THE SCENE, BUT THEY WERE NOT HURT. THEY ARE ON ADMINISTRATIVE ASSIGNMENT AS PART OF THE ONGOING INVESTIGATION. STAC

A Des Moines police officer walked out of the hospital just eight days after he was shot in the head.Senior police Officer Cade Moritz took a huge step forward in his recovery on Tuesday. He will now continue his care at a rehabilitation program.Moritz was joined by fellow senior police Officer Jacob Boekhoff, who was shot in the arm during the Sept. 16 shooting incident. Boekhoff was hospitalized for a short time and is continuing his recovery at home.Officers lined up in support of Moritz and gave him an official escort from Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines to the rehabilitation center.Police say officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Easton Boulevard last Monday. A chase ensued, and it ended with gunfire. Captain Chad Steffen and Senior Police Officer Frankie Contreras were also on the scene.Those officers weren't hurt and are on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
