A Des Moines police officer returned to his gym nearly two months after he was wounded in a shooting this summer.Senior Officer Jesse Schneider was struck by another officer's gunfire when a suspect pointed a gun at the officers after a brief chase on the city's southeast side. Schneider, a four-year veteran with DMPD, spent about a week in the hospital before being released to continue recovering at home. This weekend, CrossFit Merle Hay hosted a workout in his honor. It included 25 athletes, including some Des Moines officers, doing four rounds of 52 pullups and 74 box jumps — a nod to his four years of service and his badge number, 52-74."Physical fitness is essential in law enforcement," DMPD posted on its Facebook page. "Many of the reasons are obvious, but going into a serious injury strong and healthy enhances your ability to return to duty, and to return to those who care about you."
