It was a chilly February night in 2019 when Caitlin Clark got hot. Really hot.
Then a junior averaging more than 30 points per game for Dowling Catholic, Clark hit 13 3-pointers and scored 60 points in a win at Mason City. Those 13 3s (on 17 attempts) were a state record and the 60 points fell just one shy of tying the girls 5-player mark. (Abby Roe, of Van Buren, scored 61 in 1996 against Fairfield Maharishi.)

Clark finished her junior season averaging 35.4 points per game, then followed that up by averaging 33.7 as a senior. She was named Iowa girls basketball player of the year both seasons before moving on to superstardom at the University of Iowa and now the Indiana Fever.
