Brock Purdy, the second-year San Francisco 49ers quarterback who set dozens of program records in his four years at Iowa State, was announced as one of five finalists for the NFL Most Valuable Player award.Purdy led the 49ers to an NFC-best 12-5 record in his first full season as a starter. The Niners are still alive for this year's Super Bowl, needing a win Sunday vs. the Detroit Lions in order to clinch a Super Bowl appearance.Purdy tallied 4,280 passing yards in 16 starts to go along with 31 touchdowns. He led the NFL in several categories, including yards per attempt, passer rating and QBR.The other finalists are fellow quarterbacks Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens), Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) and Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys), along with Purdy's 49ers teammate, running back Christian McCaffrey.The winner will be announced Thursday, Feb. 8.
