Beggars' Night 2024: Schedule of Halloween trick-or-treating in central Iowa
Most central Iowa towns have followed the tradition of Beggars' Night for decades. Costumed kids go door-to-door telling jokes in exchange for candy on Oct. 30.Recently, some towns have broken with tradition. Some have chosen to designate the last Saturday in October as the night for trick-or-treating while others do it on Halloween night. So do you know when your town's trick-or-treat night is this year? Here's a list of trick-or-treating dates and times across central Iowa this year. (Times are 6-8 p.m. unless noted.) Note: several towns have moved their trick-or-treating nights from Wednesday to Thursday due to storms in the forecast. There will be a chance for a few severe thunderstorms as well, but most should stay under severe criteria. This will lead to issues for Beggars' Night, with storms expected to move over the metro for the evening and overnight. Halloween day will be much cooler with highs staying in the 50s and clear skies.
