Abstract

The author has attempted a comprehensive review of the scope of the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system to be used by undergraduate students. This is an extremely ambitious task, and it is difficult to find fault with any of the material as presented, except, of course, that all of the subjects are treated in a very cursory and abbreviated fashion. This would appear to be necessary if one is to attempt discussion of the myriad diseases of the spine, extremities, and shoulders in adults.

The attempt to cover the musculoskeletal system by regions is commendable, and this organization of the book makes it quite readable. Unfortunately, the various disease entities are covered in such a superficial manner that the book's chief value would seem to be as a syllabus to be used in conjunction with lectures and other presentations.
