Abstract

Proved cases of primary sarcoma of the great omentum are exceedingly rare. In 1919, I1 reported the postoperative and pathologic observations concerning what I believed to be an instance of this condition, though the diagnosis was not beyond question. I have since obtained a complete follow-up record of a second operation for recurrence, with pathologic studies of the tissue removed, and finally the autopsy report, together with complete notes on the autopsy following a second recurrence. Since the preliminary report, I have made an extensive study of the literature and have followed up a number of the reported cases by personal correspondence.

In this article it is my purpose: (1) to submit a detailed report of a case with the evidence to prove that it should be accepted as an instance of primary sarcoma of the omentum; (2) to study certain cases in the literature which may be accepted
