This volume is one of a series in psychopathology whose consulting editor is Norman Garmezy, a distinguished clinical psychologist. The titles in this projected series are authored by clinical psychiatrists and psychologists and the author of this volume comes from the latter discipline. In fact, in his preface he states that the book has been "written primarily for students of psychology." That may well be so but it is also a textbook of such high caliber and clarity of exposition that it is the best book yet published to recommend for students, residents, and practitioners of psychiatry and psychoanalysis as well.
