Abstract

This book is a collection of 50 articles by 32 authors. It is written primarily for the group of professionals who identify themselves as marriage counselors. The professional identity of this group is still hazy, but they are proud of the diversity of backgrounds among the members of the official organization. Much of the material in the book concerns itself indirectly with what are the proper educational and experience requirements for marriage counselors. According to the editors, there is dispute within the group as to whether their activities are psychotherapy or whether there is a kind of marriage counseling that is distinct from psychotherapy.
