I walked through the waiting room to enter the clinic. Though I was early, Mrs Y was there already, with her daughter Letty sitting beside her and her son Carlos in his wheelchair. The waiting room was otherwise empty.
Mrs Y saw me, smiled, and said, 鈥淗ello.鈥 She had few teeth left and wore old clothes. Her graying hair was tied in a bun. Letty, now about 15 years old, smiled as well, and Carlos seemed to move his whole body at once, stretching everything, rattling the wheelchair, making a happy noise.
