Corticosteroids and Kawasaki disease (KD) have had a complicated relationship. Sentiment has fluctuated between the extremes, from indispensable to proscribed, even as the roles of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and aspirin have been defined. As the meta-analysis by Chen et al1 in this issue of JAMA Pediatrics demonstrates, the findings of recent studies are finally lending some clarity to when steroids can be beneficial in KD.
