To the Editor.—Ìý With regards to the brief report, "Permanent Anonychia After Stevens-Johnson Syndrome," in the July Archives (113:970, 1977), the authors state that nothing has been written about nail changes in the Stevens-Johnson syndrome. This is not the case. In 1946 Wentz and Seiple,¹ in a report on the Stevens-Johnson syndrome, called attention to the fact that one of their cases had a complication of sloughing of all the fingernails and toenails, with eventual regrowth. In 1951 Ashby and Lazar,² in a review of 81 cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, called attention to the fact that paronychia, as well as shedding of the nails, may be seen in cases of the Stevens-Johnson syndrome, but that they are unusual. Finally, in 1966, Coursin³ reviewed the Stevens-Johnson syndrome and called attention to the fact that paronychia and shedding of the nails may be observed in Stevens-Johnson syndrome.We agree
