Abstract

According to the publisher, this book is "intended for those professionals interested in malformation syndromes and inherited disorders who might not have a detailed knowledge of the oral cavity and its possible alterations in inherited syndromes." Because more than half of the syndromes discussed in this book have cutaneous features (70 of 129), dermatologists should be one group for whom this book was written.

The first chapter begins with a section on genetic counseling, which is oversimplified, followed by a concise but informative discussion of the normal oral cavity. The remainder of the book is devoted to descriptions of individual syndromes. A brief one-to-two page description of each entity is accompanied by several current references and usually a single, small black-and-white photograph. Although it would be nice to have illustrations, this probably could not have been done without resulting in a more expensive and therefore less accessible book. There
